they say the "modern" version of your aim
which by the first design the old bard taught
of deep tradition built up from your name
i hear that they do like this one a lot
it's far more flexible when stating clear
you mustn't use iambic feet nor rhyme
and leave behind the fourteen lines that steer
your lovely nature to a simpler time
i hate how they have desecrated you
the way that you were raped cut me so deep
i'm so disturbed to see your form untrue
It's for you through this 'little song' i weep
whatever theme you carry will sustain
as only art can do when not in vain
Author Notes: Oh, how I loathe the 'modern sonnet!' This one's for the traditional poets as well as the Elizabethan sonnet's true birthright.
